Nylon

  • One of the most popular and well-known carpet fiber types, as well as one of the strongest and most durable.
  • Man-made, synthetic fiber
  • Colorfast, with great color flexibility and uniformity
  • Stain-resistant, durable, long-lasting, and resistant to mildew
  • Resilient, with the ability to quickly bounce back even after it has been flattened
  • Suitable for any room, and can be used in commercial and residential settings
  • Moderately priced, it could be more expensive than other fiber options
  • Available in Berber, frieze, patterned, and plush & textured styles
  • Can fade when exposed to too much sunlight, unless it is solution dyed nylon. (or just take the whole line out)
  • Ideal for rooms that experience heavy foot traffic from kids and pets

Polyester

  • Also known as PET
  • Affordable and budget-friendly, yet fashionable (particularly when compared to nylon carpet or wool carpet)
  • Available in a variety of colors and textures
  • Boasts rich color clarity and colorfastness, along with a luxurious feel
  • Built-in stain resistance makes it easy to clean and maintain
  • Resistant to mildew
  • Can be made from recycled materials for eco-conscious consumers
  • Modern polyester carpet is more durable than it used to be, but may be susceptible to being crushed and worn down over time, especially if there’s a lot of foot traffic
  • Available in Berber, frieze, patterned, and plush & textured styles

Polypropylene

  • Also known as Olefin
  • Appears similar to wool carpet, and commonly showcases looped styles
  • Stain-resistant, mildew-resistant, moisture-resistant, and fade-resistant and therefore used in many indoor/outdoor applications
  • Stain-resistant, mildew-resistant, moisture-resistant, and fade-resistant and therefore used in many indoor/outdoor applications
  • Easy to clean and suitable for areas with a lot of foot traffic
  • Features strong, vibrant color that doesn’t fade, even when exposed to bleach, sunlight, and chemicals
  • Colorfast because the fibers are solution dyed (the color is built into the fibers)
  • Typically more affordable than natural fiber options like wool, and also less expensive than polyester and nylon
  • Less durable than other synthetic fibers, so may become crushed or matted
  • Available in mostly Berber (looped) styles.

Triexta Polyester (PTT)

  • Also known as Smartstrand™, this is a newer carpet fiber
  • Long-lasting and more resilient than regular polyester fibers
  • Eco-friendly options available
  • Soft texture for comfort underfoot
  • Contains built-in stain and soil resistant technology, so spills are easy to clean because it is solution dyed
  • Fibers don’t absorb moisture
  • Colorfast, these fibers resist fading, even when exposed to sunlight
  • Priced competitively with Nylon, so great for all budgets

  • Available in Berber and patterned styles frieze and textured as well

Wool

  • An eco-friendly fiber that’s made from natural, renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable wool
  • Comfortable and luxurious feel underfoot, and soft to the touch
  • Strong and built to last, with excellent elasticity to preserve its appearance for longer than other carpet fibers
  • Absorbs moisture, helping to control the humidity level in a room
  • Available in many colors
  • Flame resistant
  • Able to hide dirt better than synthetic carpet fibers, but less stain resistant than some synthetic fibers, so cleaning spills promptly is recommended
  • Can fade when exposed to too much sunlight, and fibers may shed
  • More expensive than other carpet fiber options
  • Available in Berber, frieze, patterned, and plush & textured styles
