The holiday season often involves a series of parties and social gatherings. Most people are looking forward to this day as it gives them an opportunity to relax, have fun and spend quality time with their family. But with so many people visiting, not to mention dropped food and spilled drinks, all those gatherings may leave your beloved carpet in less than perfect condition. Worse, it may end up dirty, stained or ruined.
Follow the tips below to keep your carpet looking great throughout the holiday season.
Regular cleaning
Most people consider vacuuming as a time consuming and arduous task. However, regular cleaning and vacuuming goes a long ways towards maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of your carpet.
Vacuum your carpet at least once a week. The more foot traffic you have, the more you need to vacuum. Focus on high traffic areas to get rid of dirt, grime and other debris. It will be much more difficult to clean the carpet if there’s too much ground-in soil. Regular vacuuming will prevent dirt from accumulating and setting into your carpet.
Place door mats at your home’s entrance
Place a door mat at your home’s entrance so guests will be reminded to wipe off their shoes before entering the house. This helps reduce the amount of dirt and grime that will be tracked into your home and over your carpet.
Plan your menu
With the abundance of food and the presence of young kids running around the house, the possibility of spills and food drops are extremely high. When selecting the menu for your party, choose foods that are easy to eat, won’t stain your carpet and can easily be picked up in case of accidents.
As an added measure, we also suggest that you place area rugs in high traffic areas to prevent unnecessary staining.
Clean up spills immediately
Stains are likely to settle in your carpet if you fail to act quickly. As such, it is important to clean up spills as quickly as possible. Carefully scrape or pickup any solids that stick to your carpet. Then, using a white clean cloth, blot the area. Do this for a few minutes until you’ve removed as much of the stain as you can. Do not rub the stain further in.
