In this blog post, we'll share some tips on how to choose a wall color that will match with your flooring. Read on to add harmony to your living space.
Go neutral
The easiest way to ensure that your furniture, accessories, and flooring coordinate with your walls is to choose a neutral wall color. Neutral colors include black, all shades of gray and browns, ranging from beige to dark brown.
Neutral wall colors provide an ideal backdrop if you want to introduce bold-colored accessories like pillows, curtains and throw rugs to a room. You can easily personalize your space without worrying about them clashing with the walls.
Undertones
Take a look at your flooring and determine whether it's a cool tone or a warm tone. Why is this important? It's because you want to unify the entire room color scheme with a common bond of color.
Cool floors have taupe or gray undertones. Warm floors have red, orange and yellow undertones. If your wood flooring has a reddish, orange or gold undertone, choose a warm-toned wall color that will coordinate with the rest of the room's look. A rule of thumb here is if the floor is cool, look only at cool paint colors. If the floor is warm, look only at warm paint colors. Fail to match the undertone and your entire color scheme may be thrown off.
Test the color
Sure, you can always repaint the walls if it doesn't match, but that would take a lot of time, energy and money. The key is to test a small portion before painting the entire room. Make sure it's big enough so as to give you a sense of how the color will look like in the room.
