The good news is, you don't need to spend countless hours scrubbing the grout and tile. There are easy ways to tackle dirt and keep your tiles looking impressive. Cleaning grout and tiles doesn't have to be complicated. Follow the steps below and your grout will look brand new again.
Baking soda and vinegar
In a small bowl, mix baking soda and water together until it forms a thick paste. Set it aside. Then, fill a spray bottle with half and half solution of warm water and vinegar.
Now that everything is set, let's get started. Cover the grout lines with the paste. Spray the vinegar solution on the grout and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Once the mixture stops foaming, scrub it with a stiff brush and rinse with water.
Steam cleaners
Steam cleaners can be an effective and environmentally friendly method of cleaning grout. Using a steam cleaner prevents stains from adhering to the floor and minimizes ground-in dirt.
Start by filling the reservoir with water. Turn on the steam cleaner and allow it to heat up to 350F. Wear protective clothing to make sure you don't get burned or scalded.
Start scrubbing gently in between tiles. Work from the top downward. Keep the machine moving and avoid pressure in one area.
Oxygen bleach
For heavier dirt and tougher stains, try using oxygen bleach. Oxygen bleach is made of soda ash and hydrogen peroxide. This cleaning agent is activated when mixed with warm water.
Mix any high-quality oxygen bleach with warm water and stir well until it dissolves. Pour the solution onto the dry floor, making sure the grout lines are completely soaked. Let it sit for about 15 - 30 minutes. For best results, scrub the grout with a nylon-bristled brush and rinse with water.
