While there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to deciding which carpet fiber to choose, the type of fiber you choose will determine how long your carpet will last.
Majority of today's carpeting are made of synthetic fiber polyester, nylon and polypropylene.
- Polyester: Polyester carpets are less luxurious, but are beautifully soft. They are well suited for low traffic areas.
- Nylon T: his is the most popular and the highest quality of the synthetics. It is durable, sun and stain resistant, making it easy to clean and maintain.
- Polypropylene: Polypropylene is the cheapest and has the poorest performance of all the carpet fiber types.
- Wool: Wool is the only natural fiber that is used in wall-to-wall carpeting today. The fibers are soft, natural, renewable and biodegradable. It also has a soft, luxurious feel, but its high price deters buyers from choosing it.
Style
- Loop pile: The carpeting consists of a bunch of loops of fiber. If you leave the carpet in its woven form, it is a loop carpet. It creates a stylish finish with soft, smooth feel.
- Cut pile: Cut pile represents the largest share of the residential market. It is created by cutting the yarn loops, which produces an upright pile. It makes for a very attractive floor and is comfortable underfoot.
- Cut and loop pile: As the name implies, this is a combination of the two styles.
