Don?t let the holiday spills dampen your spirit. Here are some holiday stain-busting tips that will help you clean away all sorts of holiday spills and stains.
Fats and oils
Oily stains can be difficult to remove. As a precautionary measure, spray fabric protector on high-traffic areas to prevent grease from sinking in.
Sprinkle some salt on the grease stain as soon as it happens. This will help absorb the grease. Then apply a dry cleaning solvent in a damp cloth and blot the stain.
Chocolate
Chocolates are an indulgent holiday treat, but it can cause a big mess when someone drops it on the carpet.
Start off by scraping as much of the dry chocolate as you can. You can tackle the stain later after the guests leave. Once you?re ready to deal with the stain, get a white cloth and blot the carpet with detergent solution. If the stain remains, try vinegar solution.
Red wine
Someone is going to spill red wine on your carpet. It happens all the time so you have to be prepared for it. Soak up the spills with a clean paper towel as it happens to avoid staining. Then, pour some club soda over the stain and cover it with paper towels. This will serve as a pre-treatment. The next day, follow it up with a mixture of water, dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. Blot off and rinse well.
Candle wax
Candles can make any celebration a little more festive. Attack candle drippings by placing a bag of ice over the spot and let it freeze for a few minutes. Use a dull knife to scrape off the surface.
Gravy
First, remove as much of the stain as possible. Then, pour some rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth and blot the stain. Finally, blot the stain with cool water. Continue working until the stain is gone. Then, blot dry.
