how to get nail polish out of carpet

In an ideal world, women would spend hours after hours in the salon just to get their nails and hair done. But with a hectic schedule, finding time to get your nails professionally done is close to impossible. In an effort to save time and money, most of us would resort to painting our nails ourselves.

Wanting to catch up on your favorite TV shows, you set up your nail polish station on your living room floor. Everything?s going well until you spilled that hot pink nail polish on your cream-colored carpet. Don?t panic. Getting nail polish out of carpet may seem like an arduous task, but there are some easy ways to do so. Here are some of them.

Before you do anything

Fresh spills are the easiest to clean up. So be sure to act quickly before it dries up. Get an old, soft cloth or a paper towel and blot gently. You?ll need to get as much of the excess polish off the carpet as possible. Do not rub. If you do, this may cause it to set even faster and make the stain larger.

Use nail polish remover

Dip a cloth in a non-acetone nail polish remover and blot the stain. Repeat the process until no more nail polish comes off on your rug. You should see the nail polish transferring to the cloth.

Acetone is a strong chemical that could damage your carpet. It can also cause discoloration. So avoid using it as much as possible. It is necessary to run a test on a less visible portion of your carpet to make sure that it won?t bleach your carpet.

Use hairspray and alcohol

Keep the nail polish from drying by adding a generous amount of water. Then spray 15-20 pumps of hair spray, followed by 3-5 small splashes of alcohol. Get an old toothbrush and scrub the affected area for about 2-3 minutes. Keep working on the stain until it disappears.
